5 Common Foods That May Contain Parasites if Not Properly Prepared

Many everyday foods can be safely eaten, but some carry a higher risk of parasites or harmful microorganisms if they are not properly prepared. These risks usually come from contamination during farming, handling, or consumption of raw or undercooked food, making hygiene and cooking extremely important for food safety.

Chicken is one of the most commonly mentioned foods in food safety warnings. Raw or undercooked chicken may carry bacteria and occasionally parasites that can cause illness. Proper cooking, preventing cross-contamination, and safe storage are essential steps to eliminate these risks.

In some regions, snake meat is consumed as a traditional food, but it can carry parasites if not handled correctly. Like other wild meats, it must be sourced carefully and cooked thoroughly to reduce the risk of infection.

Eels are another food that can contain parasites, especially when eaten raw or undercooked. This is why eel dishes are usually fully cooked in restaurants, and home preparation requires the same level of caution.

Snails are also considered a potential risk food because they can carry parasites from their natural environment. Eating raw or undercooked snails has been linked to infections in certain regions, making proper cooking very important.

Oysters and other shellfish filter large amounts of water, which can expose them to bacteria, viruses, or parasites. Raw oysters are a known risk for foodborne illness, especially for people with weaker immune systems.

At the same time, nutrient-rich foods like boiled eggs are often highlighted for their health benefits. They provide high-quality protein, essential vitamins, and minerals that support brain function, energy, and eye health, while being simple and affordable to prepare.

Finally, warning signs such as fatigue, swelling, changes in urination, or persistent nausea may indicate kidney issues. While these symptoms can have many causes, ongoing problems should always be checked by a healthcare professional.
